“People are more open about seeking help these days. They recognise the fact that the alternative to having a shrink is that you bore your friends stupid. So I figured that I might as well give someone 100 bucks an hour to hear my woes. At least someone can make a living out of listening to my tedious problems.”
Happy 61st birthday, Hugh Laurie! (06.11.1959)
please watch this video from avenue 5 where hugh laurie’s character rips off his hair piece it is the most meta scene in the history of television i cannot stop laughing
- You hope that men will think of you as a thicky.
- All right, I’ll hope that. Toodle-oo, everyone.
I’d like some information please!
It’s just interesting to me that there’s not one television show about something that represents literally twice the danger [to oneself] and that is mental illness and suicide, and the aberrations that can occur inside the human brain. We’re going to have people on Mars in 25 years and yet we know nothing about what’s going on between our ears… One of the obstacles to telling those kinds of stories is this phenomenon that I was only recently made aware of that you basically cannot do drama about suicide.
someone at tiff19 basically asked why armando iannucci chose to adapt david copperfield with a colorblind cast (dev patel is playing the title character) as opposed to an all white cast and hugh laurie was not having it
Interviewer: There’s a lot of people in the audience, I’m sure everyone in the audience has seen a smattering of those performances and different things, the only person who probably hasn’t seen them, is you.
this scene was missing the curb your enthusiasm music so here we are!
Laurie sits back and runs hand through his hair; his smile suggestions benign capitulation. “I think I’m very different now, for reasons I alluded to before, which I probably wouldn’t want to go into.” But then he does. “I think I am less troubled than I was. Better. Actually better. I don’t know if that makes me a better person. But the moody introspection [his depression] I’ve got more sort of under control. I see it coming, and I have ways of heading it off.”Happy 60th Birthday, Hugh Laurie! (06.11.59)
